ENVIRONMENTS









The movie takes place in 2133, in a totalitarian regime. The city is divided in two sides, the dominant government on one, and the forsaken ghetto on the other. We took Hong Kong as a reference, the high buildings, the density of the town were a great source of inspiration and we added a brutalist aspect to our designs. For the lighting, we wanted to create an oppressive ambiance with a thick fog and green lights. At the end we did the opposite, we used more saturated colors and thinned out the fog.
CHARACTERS
Sam





Sam Park, our protagonist, is a young factory worker who was recently engaged in the growing resistance against the regime. Sam is a smart and agile guy that fits pretty perfectly with the mission. We were looking for a strict, sober and futuristic look with straight lines and sharp shapes in comparison to the environment he's evolving in during the movie.




Sentinel & RY-01






The sentinels work for the government to bring order. RY-01 is a sentinel that was captured by the resistance and modified to help Sam in his mission.
FX






In Hope, the difficulty was to produce realistic fx that would fit well in a heavy and oppressive environment. All the fx were created and simulated in houdini, then rendered in 3ds Max with the Vray rendering engine. We did a lot of research and development early in the project which allowed us to go into more details.
