Game Art is the art of creating and developing visual content both in 2D and 3Dwith the goal of integration in a video game. Concept in pencil or with a graphics tablet, speed painting, model sheet and other drawing techniques allow to transform a 2D projection into a form with volume. These 3D models come alive after having been texturized and animated to thereafter be integrated into 3D rendering engines specially designed for video games.

 

 

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAM                                                  

 

2D techniques:

 

  • Academic drawing (nude, anatomy and perspective)

  • Digitally assisted drawing: Creation of characters and their environment (character design, environmental design) Image editing, compositing, texture and map design for compositing 3D digital art, speed painting techniques

 

 

3D techniques:

 

  • Using model sheets for 3D modelling: DécorsENVIRONMENT, characters, outfits, objects & accessories, vehicules, clay-modelling, polygonal sculpture, retopology, painting on a 3D model (poly-paint…) + map painting

  • Comprehension of model principles of « low-poly » and « HD »

  • Map and texture export (displacement map, diffuse map, specular map, bump map, normal map, cavity map, dirt map…)

  • Animation cycles optimized for video games

  • Rigging and setup of creations (production of the skeleton of characters or other creations to allow for animation)

  • Animation techniques (giving life to creations: body animation, facial, mechanic)

  • Using 3D scan

  • Production of a cinematic “in game” as an end of studies project

 

 

Techniques of integration in a video game engine:

  • Integration of lighting settings, import different maps to configure the materials, integration of animations

  • Launching interactions

  • Real-time FX

OBJECTIVES                                                                           

  • Acquire the necessary artistic and technical skills for graphically conceptualizing and producing artistic content of a game. Study and creation of characters, visual charts, décors, production of cinematics for the engines specific used for games.

 

PROFESSIONS AND CAREER PATHS                                        

  • Artistic director, project manager, real-time 3D producer, real-time 3D digital artist, animator, character designer, environmental designer, any of which being both 2D and 3D. This curriculum will allow the student to utilize artistic 2D concept design (drawings, speed painting…) up to and including production of a 3D game.

3RD & 4TH YEAR SPECIALIZATIONS

>2 years of specialization to master techniques and constraints linked with the world of GAME ART or 

3D ANIMATION & VFX.

2ND GENERAL YEAR

>Enhance knowledge of 2D and 3D digital artistry and choose a specialization for a targeted professional orientation.

1ST GENERAL YEAR

>One year of perfecting traditional drawing, modelling, and sculpture and introduction to 2D and 3D digital art techniques.

TRADITIONAL PREP YEAR

>One year of training in traditional drawing, modelling, and sculpture.
